Public Space and Public Housing | HTC 2200 | Vaughn Horn
Course Description: This lecture course deals with issues that arise from the design of public space in the realm of developments under the control of the U.S. Public Housing Program, 1945-2015. The cases occur in the main metropolitan areas after WWII, with particular attention to developing a rubric of do's and don'ts for future public housing developments. Rooted in historical and contemporary precedents, the type of space at issue here are courtyards, community spaces, terraces, and other shared spaces, with influence the lived experience for residents' safe and sense of belonging.
