A guide to the influential Japanese architectural movement known as Metabolism

Metabolist Architecture

Japan's major post-war architectural movement has been highly influential on the way we think about the role of technology and biomimicry in architecture. Although many of the ideas generated by the movement in its heyday were confined to paper, the style's focus on modular elements, megastructures, temporary structures, flexible planning, and organic growth are increasingly relevant to the high-tech yet sustainability-minded architectural discourse of the 21st century.
