This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of the materials and methods utilized in the design of a building's interior. Through exploration and study of the various types of materials, their composition, durability, installation requirements, aesthetics, how they interface with each other and with the building's construction, students will develop the ability to make responsible and appropriate choices for the design of interior spaces. Students will explore and learn how interior design finish information is documented and presented to the construction professionals. Code information and specifications will be included. Through a series of lectures and presentations and research projects, students will become familiar with the characteristics of specific materials, the criteria for their selection, and will utilize knowledge gained in the first half of the semester to more thoroughly understand how to detail design applications and convey design intent to construction professionals. - Graham
