Phenomenology of Architecture: Home

Phenomenology + Architecture

Phenomenology is the philosophical study of structures of experience and consciousness. Focused on the nature of lived experiences and the concept of '"dwelling" in both place and time, this philosophical study is an important part of architectural theory and practice. Beginning in the 1950s, architectural phenomenology was an architectural movement that used the manipulation of space, material, light and shadow, to create memorable sensory reactions to a built space.
