Architectural History of New England | HTC 2200 | David Stuhlsatz

Course Description: This class will survey the past 400 years of architecture and development in the New England region.  Topics will include the evolution of building types, the influence of climate, and the key designs that distinguish the region.  The historical context of colonization and dominant religious philosophies will be discussed.  These include the displacement of Native Americans, the prosperity that flowed to coastal cities from the slave trade, the impact of the Revolution, and the segregation of communities by race and class.  There will be several local field trips and the opportunity for independent research and exploration of local architecture.
