South Boston, also known as "Southie," is a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts located southeast of Fort Point Channel and Dorchester Bay.        It was annexed into the city in 1804 and the neighborhood has undergone significant demographic changes over the years. Historically, South Boston          is known for its small center known as Dorchester Heights (also known as Thomas Park), where George Washington forced British troops to evacuate during the American Revolutionary War. The neighborhood is also home           to the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade that progresses down M Street Park. Overlooking the south side of the park remain some of the best examples             of nineteenth century New England architecture in the region.
