Instructional guide on how to use PolicyMap, a Graphic Information System (GIS) data and mapping tool.

Create Citations

PolicyMap uses data from authoritative sources and gives users the ability to download or share maps and tables. To see the data sources, you can view the data directory. To cite a map in Chicago Style*, use the following structure. For more information about citations, visit the citation tutorial page.

Title of map, dates. PolicyMap, permalink URL (based on data from data source; date the information was accessed).

Estimated median age of all people, between 2014-2018 in Boston, MA. PolicyMap, bac.policymap.com (based on data from Census: Decennial Census and American Community Survey (ACS); accessed Jul 29 14:07:00 EST 2020).

*Students should contact their instructors to determine whether the format should be modified.
